h i s t o r y
In 1999, Lorna Greenway, Stacey Hall, and Brenda Rarey started Spirit Systems in Houston as a series of monthly conversations to explore issues of business, consciousness, and spirituality.   They felt a need to bring spirituality into the workplace, and to address this interest in a non-denominational setting.  Clearly, they were not alone - conferences with titles such as "Business & Consciousness," "Heart of Business," and "Spiritual Leadership" were attracting thousands of people around the country.

The mission of this group was to nurture a vision of business, in which "business as usual" is really the business of integrating one's spiritual and work lives.  As more people participated, the monthly gatherings expanded to provide ideas, books, speakers, and workshops to help participants explore that vision.  No particular spiritual tradition is stressed.  Rather, each individual is encouraged to pursue his or her own path.

Guests have ranged from the well known to the home grown.  Perhaps most notable have been the president of Hermann Memorial Health Care System, Dan Wilford; the Chairman of Sterling Bank, George Martinez; and a special guest from India, Professor Chandri Joshi of Co-Evolution Design Transformations.  Many other speakers are frequent participants whose expertise the other attendees want to hear.  Such topics as spirituality and: money, personality, work choices, creativity, aesthetics, conflict, fear, and even politics are among recent topics.  Please see the archive of 2004 speakers for a sample list.
